Conditioning is a mindful practice to prepare the mind and body, not only for yoga but for any task that requires focus and calmness. It involves connecting with the breath, relaxing the body, and cultivating awareness to enter a calm, centered state. This practice creates a stable foundation for yoga postures, pranayama, meditation, or any activity—like an interview, exam, or meeting. Conditioning allows us to clear away distractions and stress, so we can approach our tasks with clarity, balance, and inner peace.

How to Practice Conditioning

Follow these simple steps to condition your body and mind:

Relaxation and Breath Awareness: Start by sitting or standing comfortably, and close your eyes gently. Focus on breathing deeply and slowly, observing each inhale and exhale. Allow the breath to calm your mind and center your attention at the nostrils, feeling the flow of air as it goes in and out.

Body Awareness: Gradually scan your body from head to toe, consciously relaxing each area. Release any tension, allowing the body to soften and settle.

Mental Centering: Bring your awareness to the present moment, letting go of distractions. Mentally affirm your intention for the practice or task ahead, creating a peaceful and focused state of mind.

Positive Visualization: Visualize yourself as calm and steady, free from worry or stress, and prepared to engage in your practice or task with a balanced mind.

Preparation for Action: With a calm and relaxed body and mind, open your eyes slowly. Transition to your first yoga posture or begin your task, maintaining this awareness of breath and movement.

Conditioning takes only 2 to 3 minutes but is a powerful way to reduce stress and strengthen focus, setting a positive tone for whatever lies ahead. By giving our mind this short preparation time, we can improve our ability to handle challenges with resilience and clarity.
